Court records, per Rule 20.1 of the Iowa Court Rules, are the documents contained in a court file, such as a docket and other comparable records created to track case activity, transcripts submitted to the clerk, documentary exhibits held by the clerk, and any record of court proceedings produced through a means that the Iowa supreme court approves.
The county custodian of Scott County also defines court records as "Records of the judicial branch of the county government," which are any records—court records and administrative records—made or received in connection with the conduct of official business of the judicial branch of government, regardless of their physical form, characteristics, or mode of transmission.
